Reebok ad featuring 50 Cent. uzair yaqoob

1. the way this add starts of by showing violence is right in the beginning, it shows shoes hanging of a line, this symbolizes death, in the "ghetto" if a person who has died can not afford a grave stone, a member of their gang has to get a hold of their shoes they died in and throw them over anything where the person has died in a violent way, preferably a stabbing or shooting, this simply represents their death spot. Also in the beginning you can hear police sirens and screaming, this could also tell us something bad has just happened, you then also hear a voice says "shot 9 times in Jamaica queens". every one has herd of the story about 50cent getting into a gang war and ended up being shot 9 times, once again a gun was used, guns are known to be used in violent situations. as the zoom into 50s face, you hear "tell me, who do you plan to massacre next?" and then 50cent laughs, and changes to a serious face, this shows he serious about massacring some one, once again leading to violence.

2. I think Reebok intends to glamorize violence in that way, is show that their could be a certain brand for each type of person, for teens who have grown up rough with violence all around have to have that feeling that there is something out there for them, and this is what Reebok is trying to give, by being socially out casted by the people around them, they have to have the sense that some one does care about them and is thinking about them, and I think that is what Reebok intends to do. By doing this they are also pulling in more customers and by doing so they make them selves more popular ‘’in the hood’’ of most troubled teens.

3. the target audience if for males, for about 15+ in age rage, because at around the teenage year is when most teens become aware of what is around them and choose the wrong way to react to them, also their isn’t a age where a person over 15 cannot wear this make, as 50 cent is a man, which shows any man can also be apart of this brand, and the way they would be affected by the ideology is that they get the idea by having this brand they could be just like 50 cent, which also means if they get into a situation where they get shot, they could possibly survive as 50cent has. Personally as I have a pair of the g-unit sneakers made by Reebok, it makes me feel as if I am apart of g-unit because i have their brand, and also makes me feel more powerful and dominant as 50 cent is represented.

4. in my opinion the add should have been banned, because it does not show any thing positive about the brand, it shows them as being “violent”. As 50cent is the main man in this advert also gives of a negative vibe, because 50cent is known to be apart of g-unit which a group know for its anti social behaviour, and 50cent is seen as the warlord, so by showing him shows a bad image, and also the main product which is supposed to be advertised is the shoes, and not once do they show the shoes, they only show 50, with screaming sounds, police siren they show shoes that mark a death spot, and hear him laugh when asked who he massacring next, all of these on their own give of so much violence, and this add would just encourage more violence.
