12B HW Due 29/11/10 (VIGLEY)

Which trailer conventions are present in these trailers?
Slumdog millionaire and trainspotting uses many different conventions, both trailers are show to be fast tempo and quick, this would draw in a audience as every thing happens so fast they would try to take in as much as they can, also in slumdog the trailer open and it does not have a title, it just shows the awards that have been won and goes straight into the filming, this would make people wonder what it is about. also in the beginning of the trailers you see the face of the main star, this way the audience know who to expect. also in both trailer they use a bit of comedy, in trainspotting the whole trailer could be used as comedy, half way through slumdog they use a funny type of music, this relaxes the audience as every one likes a bit of comedy and they would know it isn't all serious.

How are the trailer conventions used to promote the film to an audience?
(as i have not seen either movie i will tell you what i think..)
the trailer conventions added maybe be the bits that are not in the movie, this could be because the writer wants the audience to see what they think they will see in the film, this would make them sit through the whole movie expecting to see the part they saw in the trailer, or it could be a way to bring in an audience, they could show something really dramatic or any thing that leaves the audience with questions, and the only way to answer them is by watching them. also that the name of the film comes near the end, the audience would want to know the name so they can also tell their friends and family about the movie.

Which trailer do you think is more successful? Why?
it think slumdog would be more successful because it looks more modern and uses up to date equipment, and trainspotting is more older and does look quiet boring, slumdog looks more thrilling with the colours and the lights, although some people are more fond of old movies, the slumdog one shows the awards they have one, and people would want to see why they have won those award, therefore making them more successful

12B Homework Due Wed Nov 24th (VAN)

Jack Ass 3d
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fKwjU_pSSW4

Media Forms:

This trailer used different techniques to hold and influence the audience to watch the movie. The trailer begins by showing the paramount pictures logo as this movie is within the paramount pictures industry, it then shows the logo flip into MTV because Jack Ass was first created and shown on MTV. Then you hear a car start up and hear a voice which says “this isn’t the best idea” then hear laughing, this is one way to persuade audience because it makes the audience why this car was started and why someone says it is not a good idea, it would make them want to see what the idea is, and the name itself gives of the people in the movie, that they are typical “jackasses”, and of course if you a fan of comedy why would you not want to watch a movie called jack ass? The name itself is funny!

Media Representations:
men are represented as complete idiots in this movie. it may sound harsh but from what you can see, these men bully and prank their friends and it is very funny, the things they do would be seen in every day, that is why it is a once in a life time chance to see it on the big screen. fully grown men acting like kids.

Media Audiences:
the audience for this trailer would have to be 16+ because of the content in the movie, it would not be appropriate for people under the age if 16, simply because of the material.   People in the C1, D & E category would most likely to the audiences of this film.

Media Institutions:
the Hollywood values and characteristics that are identified in this trailer is through comedy, the entire movie is about people stupid stuns and are going over the top in everything they do. as you would see in a normal Hollywood movie where they use stunt doubles so the actors don't get hurt, but in this case the real actors are doing the stunts, copying the Hollywood style of film making.

12B Homework Due: Wed Nov 17th by 5pm (VAN)

Bebo's new soap is all product placement, no plot
This article is about a TV soap program called 'The Secret World of Sam King ,' which is being released on the internet through a site called Bebo. it is said to be just like the Disney soaps. It tells about how the lead character Same who is just 12 and pals just keep on bumping into famous musicians as part of their job. The target audience of the TV program is mentioned  as the “ S club 7” and "the Bebo generation".

The Critics Need a Reboot. The Internet Hasn't Led Us Into a New Dark Age.

the second article is by David Wolman, it is about how the new technology has developed over a period of time have an impact, on the contemporary media landscape. people have described it to be " a dark age". it also tells how the internet is beginning to make people less smarter by allowing them to access lies and read them believing they are true and that the Web provides remarkably easy access to such bogus ideas. It then goes on to say how the internet can be a good thing and mention Wiki, and says that there is alot of collected brain power with in these sites, the wrtier also says schools need to be smarter and distinguish knowledge from garbage.

12B Film Homework: Due before Thurs Nov 11 (VAN)

Part A
i think the most popular film genres at the moment is the family and comedy genre, this is because producers realise that it is cold and bad conditions outside so people would want to stay inside, and would want to lighten the mood by realising comedy or family movies either on tv or at the cinema, it also gives the family a chance to come together and watch a good family movie that is also funny, i have also realised that as i go through diffrent movies to watch, they are mostly comedy ones, with such movies as, shrek, the simpsons movie, the hangover, hot tub time machine etc. also in the cinemas they have realsed new comedy movies like Due date, Jackass 3D, Dispicable me.

As well as family and comedy there has also been alot of horror, i believe theese were relased because of haloween but there was alot of horror movies out at this time, such as paranormal activity, saw 3d, let me in etc.

i think back in the 1930s and 40s i think that action and adventure was the most popular genres, because as i look at information it shows me theese movies
  • The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)

  • The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1939)

  • The Blood of a Poet (1930)

  • Borderline (1930)

  • Doctor X (1932)

  • Dodge City (1939)

  • and loads more on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1930s_in_film
i think this is because in those times there wasnt much entertainment as we have today, like ps3's and alot of other game consoles and the only way to escape from reality was through watching these action movies, as most of these people needed something good in their lives.

ms wigley cover work, kicks trailer

    Kicks
Shots: there are many different types of shots used within this trailer, a main one is the POV or Point of view shot, this shot is first introduced when you see the girl looking through the hole in the wall towards the footballer, this type of shot makes the audience feel as if they are there, they can see what the girl can see. They also use a lot of long shots, medium shots and close shots; the trailer actually opens with a close up of the girl touching a picture of the footballer.
Camera angle: a low angle is used right after the close shot in the beginning of their trailer; it shoes the building high up and the girl walking towards the camera. A high angle shot is used later on in the trailer in where the girls are shown lying down on the floor.
Mise-en-scene: is used throughout the whole trailer, there is a lot of different colours, as the actors are seen in the same cloths/costumes, it is shot in night and day and a few props have been used like a gun and cars etc.
Sound: a lot of different sounds are also used throughout the trailer; as soon as the trailer begins you hear as if someone is singing, or talking to themselves, this is known as a ‘Diegetic sound’ because it is a sound that seems to be part of what is occurring on screen, when the girl is touching the picture, and then in the beginning when they show the POV shot you hear music begin to play we know this is a sound that we know is not part of what is on screen, in media terms this is known as ‘Non-Diegetic  sound’.
Editing: when many different shots are placed together, this is called a montage; they are mainly about the protagonists within the trailer, the montage in this trailer is seen throughout, this trailer also uses different effects such as lighting, when the girl is seen holding the picture in the begging, there’s this sort of pinkish reddish colour all round, this could symbolise love as the fact she is in love with this footballer, then after when the story begins to open and things get worse, she has a gun, when she has the gun the back ground and all around her is a dim black and grey colour, this could symbolise death.
Genre: the genre is a romantic almost suspenseful story, as we can see this is about love, we do not know about the girl’s fascination with the footballer.
Narrative Todorovs theory is being followed in this trailer because in the beginning of the trailer it starts with equilibrium - the girl’s extreme close up view of her features with her holding the photo of the footballer and also uncertainty is produced by the ways the scenes are placed in a non linear manner.
