i think the most popular film genres at the moment is the family and comedy genre, this is because producers realise that it is cold and bad conditions outside so people would want to stay inside, and would want to lighten the mood by realising comedy or family movies either on tv or at the cinema, it also gives the family a chance to come together and watch a good family movie that is also funny, i have also realised that as i go through diffrent movies to watch, they are mostly comedy ones, with such movies as, shrek, the simpsons movie, the hangover, hot tub time machine etc. also in the cinemas they have realsed new comedy movies like Due date, Jackass 3D, Dispicable me.
As well as family and comedy there has also been alot of horror, i believe theese were relased because of haloween but there was alot of horror movies out at this time, such as paranormal activity, saw 3d, let me in etc.
i think back in the 1930s and 40s i think that action and adventure was the most popular genres, because as i look at information it shows me theese movies

i think this is because in those times there wasnt much entertainment as we have today, like ps3's and alot of other game consoles and the only way to escape from reality was through watching these action movies, as most of these people needed something good in their lives.
